An Introduction to Skycircus

An Introduction to Skycircus

It is nearly a month since Skycircus first came out and I have been busily travelling all around the country to tell children about the book on a booktour. But I have just this week had a few calm days at home, so I found the time to make a short video to tell you all a little about the books. And here it is (*warning it does contain a few spoilers about the opening act of the book, so if you hate to know ANYTHING!! about something before you read it, you may not want to watch!)…

In which I explain a little of the plot of #SKYCIRCUS the newest book in the #CogheartAdventures series. Find out what happens to Robert and Lily and Malkin in this spectacular showstopper…

And if you enjoyed that brief introduction to the book, then allow me to read you the prologue…

Secret Staff Meeting Interview…

Secret Staff Meeting Interview…

Two weeks ago I went to do a workshops with A Tale Unfolds as part of a new Readingzone project that will be coming soon to help children create book trailers for their favourite books in classrooms. We had a fantastic time at Copenhagen School in Islington working with the kids to create a trailer for Cogheart

Afterwards Dom from A Tale Unfolds asked if I would like to do an interview for their ongoing youtube series: The Secret Staff Meeting, which is aimed at introducing authors to teachers. Here are the results. We chatted about how I got my start in writing, my background in film, the books and how I write them, things I think should be taught in schools, and my new book Skycircus. You can check out the interview below…

Moonlocket Books Are My Bag Instagram takeover

Yesterday afternoon I took over the @BooksAreMyBag Instagram account to post some images to do with my book #Moonlocket which has been nominated for the Book Are My Bag Readers Award. I was able to post some development images of the artwork from Becca Stadtlander and Kath Millichope. As well as some images of my developmental writing from early drafts of the book. Here are the posts –

Hi all! This is @peter_bunzl – I am taking over the books are my bag instagram for a bit to post some images to do with my book #Moonlocket which has been nominated for the #BAMBReadersAward …So to start with here’s an image of the books cover – designed by Kath Millichope and illustrated by the AMAZING @beccastadtlander I think that they created something spectacular that perfectly encapsulates the book. I love the theatrical flavour of the rich velvety background and the embroidered stars, and the harvest moon, a call back to the #Cogheart clockface. I adore the London skyline, with hints of all the dark places Lily, Robert and Malkin visit in the story! #BAMB #Usborne #UKMG #ChildrensBooks #CogheartAdventures #BooksAreMyBag #IndieBookshops @Usborne_books @peter_bunzl

One Amazing August

One Amazing August

This week saw the last few days with Cogheart as Waterstones Children’s book of the month…

It has been one amazing August, glimpsing all the windows and displays that the lovely Waterstones sellers put together, going round shops to sign loads of books, and meeting the fabulous booksellers themselves in reality and online; hearing all their enthusiasm for the book has been truly fantastic.

Thank you, all of you, and to celebrate here is a little slideshow of some of the stupendous windows and table displays of the book that people sent me during a month that went by very very quick! I was a little sad on Wednesday when it was all over….

But then on Thursday – the First of September – the book was out EVERYWHERE, and we had a proper big launch party to celebrate – of which more later! For now here’s the slide show of all the COGTASTIC Waterstones windows…

Cogheart Trailer for Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month

Cogheart Trailer for Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month

Check out the little animated trailer I made for Cogheart as Waterstones Children’s Book of the Month. I re-used all the animation bits from the original book trailer and a created a couple of new animated titles from quotes and blurbs for the book. I think it looks rather spiffing! And Waterstones are now also running it on their youtube channel too…
